Beshert Named Runner-Up at the Sandford St Martin Awards 2026
Movie Love Productions’ fiction short Beshert has been named Runner-Up in the Young Audience category at the Sandford St Martin Awards 2026.
The Sandford St Martin Awards 2026 took place at Lambeth Palace on Tuesday 16 June. They are the UK's leading prizes for broadcasting about religion, ethics and spirituality - recognising outstanding work that deepens public understanding of belief and values across television, radio and beyond.
The only narrative work included in the shortlist, judges praised Beshert for its refreshing and distinctive portrayal of masculinity, as well as its compelling, engaging storytelling. Set in a Leeds care home, Beshert tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a grumpy old man and a reluctant Barmitzvah boy, and the way that connection quietly transforms them both. It's a film about grief, growing up, and the Jewish idea of beshert - destiny, what is simply meant to be - but at its heart it is a story for anyone who has ever wondered where they belong and why.
Starring Anton Lesser and Kit Rakusen, and made with the support of the Pears Fund at UK Jewish Film Festival, Beshert premiered in November 2025 and is now completing an international festival run.
