Beshert has World Premiere at UK Jewish Film Festival
Movie Love Productions was proud to celebrate the world premiere of our award-winning short film Beshert at the UK Jewish Film Festival on Monday 10 November at the Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley.
Written by Gary Enkin and directed by Lewis Rose, Beshert tells the moving and gently humorous story of an unlikely friendship between a gruff care home resident and a reluctant barmitzvah boy. The film stars acclaimed actor Anton Lesser (Wolf Hall, Game of Thrones, Endeavour) as Mr Pinsky, alongside rising young talent Kit Rakusen (The Phoenician Scheme, Jay Kelly, Famous Five), in one of this year’s two Pears Short Film Fund award winners.
Filmed in a disused wing of Nightingale House in south London, Beshert explores themes of memory, faith, and connection across generations. Lesser’s performance brought warmth and quiet emotional depth to the role, drawing on his own heritage to deliver a portrayal full of humanity and heart. Speaking about the project, he said:
“It touched my heart right away. If something doesn’t move me, I’m not interested in doing it — life’s too short to do something that isn’t full of love.”
The premiere was warmly received by audiences, who praised the film’s touching performances and delicate storytelling. The chemistry between Lesser and Rakusen was particularly noted, their synchronicity capturing the essence of the film’s title — beshert, meaning “destiny” or “meant to be.”
Movie Love Productions extends heartfelt thanks to the UK Jewish Film Festival, the Pears Short Film Fund, and everyone who joined us for this special evening.
